Newham Unlocked X Certain Blacks
The Swan
”A rebirth. A family outpouring. A presentation of Blackness. Of Fabulousness.
Inspired by the ceremonies, rhetoric traditions and customs of my family.
A cross between my sister’s wedding, a rebirth and an imagining of new dreams.
An experimental pop gig with me and my family.
Featuring new songs written by Nwando and performed by members of her family:
“My family naturally creates beautiful ceremonies and happenings in our every day lives. We dance, we gather. There are speeches made. Prayers said. Magic abounds. I want to share this magic. As an act, it is a statement of ancestral reverence connecting to the wider work I'm currently doing exploring indigenous technologies as a counterpoint to the Western Post-Enlightenment bias towards meanings of technology to always mean machines, commerce, and never ritual, earth, sustainability.”
Featured dancers are Ijenma Onwu, Ami Thomas, Mali Thomas, Cee Cee Ebizie. Guest singer: Cee Cee Ebizie. With support from Kelly Ofoegbu, Chidilim Ebizie, Chioma Etugo, Onyinye Doze, Obioha Ebizie and Logan Doze.
